NDO – The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) recently arranged eight Vietnamese firms operating in the field of agricultural production to participate in and introduce their fresh and dried fruit, such as jackfruit, durian and lemons, at the 2018 Guangzhou International Fruit Expo in China’s Guangdong province.
The activity was part of the agency’s efforts to help Vietnamese business to expand their exports to various markets around the world.
The Guangzhou expo covered more than 23,000 square metres, attracting the presence of Chinese firms and companies from Greece, Australia, Turkey, Spain, Chile, Thailand, Argentina, Indonesia and Malaysia, among others.
A Vietrade representative said that Guangdong is the largest fruit importing and transiting market in China, adding that the fair offered a good chance for Vietnamese fruit producers and suppliers to advertise their products and seek partners and customers, thus boosting their exports.
In the first five months of 2018, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to major markets saw an increase in revenue, with the highest rise recorded in the Chinese market at 18.1% up to US$1.2 billion.
As assessed by Vietrade, China remained a major importer of Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products, accounting for up to 74.6% of Vietnam’s total export revenue in the first five months of 2018.
