Call for application for Master fellowships in plant science in France
Applications are invited for fellowships to pursue a Master programme in Montpellier, France, as specialization in plant biology and plant breeding within either one of two curricula:
- University of Montpellier, Master Biologie Agrosciences (www.biopmbb.univ-montp2.fr), BP track (Biologie des Plantes), or
- Montpellier SupAgro, Master 3A (Agronomie et agroalimentaire), SEPMET track (Sélection et évolution des plantes
- méditerranéennes et Tropicales) (http://www.supagro.fr/web/pages/?idl=19&page=1701&id_page=3551).
Three (3) fellowships are available for students from West Africa and three (3) for students from Southeast Asia. They are meant to cover the costs of living and studying for the two years of the Master.
They will be attributed to students whose applications have been selected.
Application deadline is February 28, 2016, for a Master curriculum starting in September 2016.
Scholarship Description: The fellowship is awarded as part of the CultiVar project as described in the attached flyer. The CultiVar project, In association with the Master Biologie Agrosciences-BP of University of Montpellier and the Master 3A-SEPMET of Montpellier SupAgro School, aims to increase the scientific, research and personal skills of the participants, and to enhance their awareness of the international dimensions of modern plant breeding. Both Masters are accredited by the French Ministry of Education. The diploma is recognized worldwide.
Eligibility: Eligible candidates fulfill ALL following criteria:
- be less than 30 years old (on 1st September) when starting the Master programme
- possess a BSc degree or an equivalent degree from an internationally recognized university before starting the Master programme
- have successfully followed courses related to plant sciences or agronomy
- present a strong motivation for plant breeding
- possess basic knowledge in French and English languages.
How to Apply: Eligible candidates should send their application by Email to the CultiVar Management Team in Montpellier (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) in Thiès in Senegal, Pr Ibrahima Ndoye (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) in Dakar in Senegal, or Pr Michel Lebrun (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) in Vietnam. The application should include:
- a complete curriculum vitae, including a copy of an identity card or a passport
- a copy of the latest diploma along with a recommendation letter from a Professor from the ongoing cursus
- a list of disciplines covered by the courses, with marks and ranks obtained
- a letter of motivation
- an attestation of their capacity in languages in French (ideally TEF test) and English (ideally Toefl test).
The application deadline is February 28, 2016.
Selection process: A pre-selection by the CultiVar selection committee will be made based on the early academic trajectory, the quality of the performance (marks and ranks), the expressed motivation, and an interview by CultiVar regional representatives. The decision for pre-selection will be made by March 15, 2016.
Following this pre-selection, the applications will be transmitted to the teachers in charge of the Master curricula (either in Montpellier University or in Montpellier SupAgro) that appears best adapted to their scientific and professional profile. The final decision for admission may require additional tests. The recipients of the scholarships will be notified in early June 2016. Gender balance along the complete selection process will be considered.
Description of the award(s): The fellowship will be awarded for the two years of the Master course, from September 2016 to August 2018, provided that the student passes the exam between the two years, and that assiduity to courses and internship is respected. In case of failure, the fellowship can be interrupted.
The fellowship covers the costs of traveling (one roundtrip between home and Montpellier per year), studying (including tuition fees and bench fees in research labs) and living. The living allowance is 10500 € annually.
